The animation and voice actors in this film portrayed such a realistic realm that it truly felt as though I was back in my basement playing with the small building blocks. Although it hasn’t won any major awards, the song seemed to have been received well enough in Hollywood as it was nominated for the Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards. The simple lyrics and peppy beat had a way of gripping onto a person and refusing to let go. Perhaps you have never heard the song “Everything Is Awesome.” If this is the case, consider yourself lucky! If not, then you understand the utter annoyance that took the world by storm in 2014.

Parks and Recreation, Jurassic World, and Guardians of the Galaxy) Will Arnett’s portrayal of Batman was executed so perfectly that he eventually got his own Lego Batman movie as a result. Chris Pratt is the leading man in this film which is fitting as his character is a basic white dude and in nearly every acting gig that Pratt finds himself in he plays the stereotypical white dude. The casting process for this film was done with such precision and detail it’s easy to imagine this movie could have been done in live action with a similar affect. The trick to The Lego Movie is that stop motion isn’t actually the way the cinematographers filmed, instead animators worked tirelessly to perfect a style that recreates that original technique with todays modern technology. Filmed in stop motion technique, which less and less films utilize, this was different. With a star-studded cast overflowing featuring the likes of Chris Pratt, Liam Neeson, Nick Offerman, Will Ferrell, and Elizabeth Banks, one can only expect greatness. Confused? As if that weren’t enough, towards the end of the movie it is revealed that the lego universe is actually a real-life child playing a game in which his father (Will Ferrell) is the bad guy. He must defeat Lord Business with his cohort of Master Builders (Uni-Kitty, Batman, Wyld Style, and Vitruvius).
This feel good-movie has a rather simple plot: while Emmett is stumbling through a construction site, he happens upon an object that will save the fate of the world. From a distance, Emmett appears to have his entire life together however, once the microscope is zoomed into his life, it is evident he isn’t as happy as one may assume. Meet Emmett, a yellow, single, healthy male construction worker lego he is, in a way, the everyman.
